Fun Facts and Happiness

My last name is Read. And that is 100% legit – I’ve got the Birth Certificate to prove it.

Quite appropriately, I love to read. I read novels, history books, and anything in German that I can get my hands on. Reading is happiness.

Did I mention I can speak German? Well, now you know. But I read it much better than I speak it. (Ich kann besser Deutsch lesen als sprechen.)

I love writing. That’s why I’m a copywriter. But I also wrote a story in Year 12 called "The Bridesmaid" that got published in a magazine! You can check it out if you want.

I hate bananas. And onion – I pick it out of everything. No bananas and no onion makes me happy.

My favourite board games are Articulate and Stratego. I win Stratego a lot. This makes me happy.

In Year 9, I was named the Australian “Young Historian of the Year” for my essay in the National History Challenge. The Tasmanian Education Department still uses the essay as a work sample. If you’re mega keen, you can find it here.

I like to laugh. And smile. And then laugh again.

My favourite books are the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer, Jane Austen's works, and C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia. An eclectic mix, to be sure  but a good one!

I have a BA in History and German, and a First Class Honours Degree in History from the University of Tasmania. Technically, this makes me an Historian! In fact, my first job straight after I finished Honours was working as a History Research Assistant. So I am also your go-to girl for any family history work you want done. I like hot chocolate. Preferably of the Fair Trade variety.

My mother is a seamstress, and a perfectionist. She taught me to sew. To her standards. So I can sew, and I do it well. Sewing (and wearing the pretty dresses I sew) makes me happy.

I started my business aged only 23.

My favourite TV show is The IT Crowd. I was devastated when they stopped making it. Re-watching episodes of The IT Crowd (especially with IT Crowd newbies) makes me very happy.

My other Favourite TV show is Once Upon a Time. What can I say? I like fairytales.

I used to play clarinet with the Hobart City Wind Symphony. In 2009 we won the National 'A Grade' Concert Band Championships in Sydney. One of the pieces we played - Extreme Makeover by Johan de Meij - included a large section played entirely with tuned bottles. That's right - I won a band competition playing a tuned bottle!

My lovely customers also make me happy. Want to become one? Then get in touch via the contact form on this page.
